“New Year’s Resolutions”. There is a lot of negative conversation that comes with making “New Years Resolutions”?  And I get it… the whole story of “Why wait every year for new years to start your goals and passions…?”

It’s true, why should you wait every year to START!?  You shouldn’t.  BUT hear me out… here are 5 reasons why I STILL LOVE New Year’s Resolutions:

  1.  It’s the 1 time every year that most of the world has this energy to be better.  Why would we shame that?  Anytime there is a holiday, event, occasion that brings people together and creates an energy that ignites motivation to be better… I am here for it!
  2. It’s a good measurement. When the year turns it’s an opportunity to reflect and look back.  What type of plans did you have over the year?  Did you accomplish them?  Did you hit that business goal?  That health goal?  Why or why not?  It’s a perfect time to measure yourself and reflect.
  3. If you have a partner, family whatever person you do life with… this is such a fun, exciting time to plan your year together.  Bust out the calendar, get your bucket list down on paper and get it scheduled!  Even if it’s something small, if it’s not on your calendar, you probably won’t do it.  My husband and I go as far as booking things far out, so we are forced to follow through, even if life feels busy or overwhelming at that time. Make sure you have something exciting happening every month… can be big or small.  Then you have something to look forward to every month!  (If you have kiddos… let them help plan too! They will think it’s so cool.)
  4. It’s giving you the opportunity to DREAM!  Your resolution doesn’t need to be..” lose 5 pounds before summer.”  Resolutions can be so much more than the typical weight loss goal that we always associate them with. Dream big! What do you really want to happen in 2024?  What do you want to happen that would change the trajectory of your life?
  5. The comfort that comes with having a plan, structure and routine is soooo beneficial. If you are like me and have squirrel brain, it’s nice to have something to always come back to when shiny objects get in the way of your TRUE focus, plan throughout the year.  So, get your plans, goals, resolutions down on paper, in your notes app… wherever you can easily access it and look at it ALL THE TIME. This is something that I am going to be implementing this year.  It’s going on my mirror so I can stare at it every morning.

That is that.  GET ON BOARD FRIENDS. Don’t jump on the anti-resolution bandwagon… it’s lame and it gives “misery loves company” vibes.

Cheers,

Abby
